Finland is a picturesque land of lakes and islands, forests and wild nature. Lapland is the the northernmost region of Finland. Lapland features highlands and mountains. There is located the Finnish highest peak of Haltiatunturi, which is 1324 metres above sea. There are also swamps and lakes: Inari, Lokan i Porttipahdan. Lapland is mostly inhabited by Sampi people who still keep their tradition, language, habits. The most recognizable figure associated with that regiom, it is Santa Claus whose a seat is located close to Rovaniemi. In Lapland, besides beautiful, unspoilt nature, there also is several sites which are worth visiting.
Rovaniemi is the modern city in the north of Finland. The city is dotted with many museums, hotels and restaurants so it provides good tourist infrastructure. It is an important winter sport centre. On the outskirts of Rovaniemi, there is located a house and a main seat of Santa Claus. The complex named Santa Claus village includes a post office, an airport as well as a toy factory. Elves work there whole year. This village is a great attraction for both children and adults.
The Urho Kekkonena route is a tourist route on the distance of 1500 km. The start point is situated in the city of Hamina, close to the Finnish-Russian border and the end is in north fjords, nearby Nuorgam. This region features many wild forests, lakes, waterfalls. In close vicinity to the city of Kajaanu, there is a viewpoint of Vuokatti.
Kemi is a city which offers an icebreaker cruise in the Gulf of Bothnia. It is only one icebreaker on the whole world which is used for tourist purposes. During the cruise, there is a chance to swim in icy water.
