Porvoo is one of the oldest towns in southern Finland, situated only 50 km east from Helsinki. Its origins date back to 14th century, when the town was under Swedish rule. Its narrow, cobbled streets with small wooden buildings give a good picture of how the life of Finns looked like ages ago. Porvoo is major tourist attraction in Helsinki region and it definitely deserves its great fame. The most beautiful places of Porvoo are the Old City and red shore houses on the riverbank. Architecture of the buildings take us to the past and let us enjoy tranquility and beauty of this magnificent place. In the north part of Porvoo there are castle hills with precious monuments like ancient fortress and an Iron Age burial site.
