Do you want to feel the thrill of the real adventure in remarkably beautiful nature dominated by lakes and woods? Are you ready for unforgottable experience? Go with us to the magical region of South Savonia in Finnish Lake District. We will take you to the places where people still have not done much harm to the nature. Savonlinna & Punkaharju had been two seperate cities before they were consolidated in 2013. Punkaharju is famous for the outstanding lanscape of Punkaharju ridge. This area offers a great number of various activities: crosscountry skiing, tour skating, canoeing, fishing, boating, cycling, trekking, rambling, riding, nordik walking as well as a possibility to enter into the world of Finnish Forest Museum Lusto and the park with tallest pines in Finland. There is also a lot of worth seeing old buildings with interesting history (the old railway station, the Czarina's villa, Punkaharju Valtionhotelli and more).
The most important attraction in the area of South Savonia is the medieval castle Olavinlinna in the city of Savonlinna. Nowadays, this medieval fortress is a home to different kind of events, exhibitions and Savonlinna Opera Festival. The other sights, where you must go, are the 19th century Cathedral, Provincial Museum Riihisaari, Doll and Toy Museum Sorrowless and The Casino islands.
As you probably know Savonlinna and Punkaharju are too far from Helsinki to visit them during 1 day only but we can help you with organizing 2 days tour or a multiday tour to this region of Finland. So if you are interested in visiting those places, please do not hesitate to contact us.
